She was born March 15, 1911 in the Pleasant Valley/Locust Grove community just north of Harrisburg, the daughter of the late William D. Tillery and Linnie Bell Tillery.

She was a member of the HHS Class of 1929 and was the last remaining member of her class. She married Marshall Condra on October 13, 1929 and they enjoyed 50 years of marriage before his death in 1979. Sylvia was an avid gardener. She harvested the remainder of her fall planting two days before going to the hospital. She loved her flowers and had numerous plants. She often placed a rose in the ground and watched over it until a massive rose bush grew. Any plant that she shared with her friends and family always flourished. She was Grandma Sylvia to her grandchildren and was dearly loved by all of them, and she dearly loved all of them. Children would talk to Sylvia and would want to have their picture made with her. She loved to show her glass shoe collection. Oftentimes if someone admired a shoe, she would give it to them as a gift. She was a friend to everyone and loved to fish. She was very proud of her lifetime Fishing License and especially her valid Driver’s License. Sylvia won several Beauty Pageants and was proud of her crowns and trophies. She was selected as the Rotary Citizen of the Year and also Mother Of the Year at the Harrisburg Festival On The Ridge. She was selected Queen of the Festival on The Ridge. She won numerous times in the Riceland Cook-off contest. A Scholarship honoring Sylvia by Jim Tom & Connie Butler was established for a Harrisburg High School Senior. She spoke several times to students about living during the depression. Her talks would have the students amazed. The Poinsett County Fair Board dedicated the fair to her. She enjoyed entering canned food, field and garden crops and her flowers. She entered a row of flowers last year and every flower was a blue ribbon winner. She had won sweepstakes on her quilts. She quilted and gardened all her life. She has lived to see 18 presidents inaugurated. She has witnessed so much history and still enjoyed attending church and visiting friends. Parker Pioneer Homestead was one of the special places she loved to go. She volunteered there until she was 98. She just enjoyed life and provided joy to those around her. At the age of 100, she tossed the coin at the HHS Homecoming Football Game. She walked to center field for the toss and remained for the game and watched the Hornets win. If a Razorback game was on t.v., she was watching. She always said her secret to her long life was that she drank a coke in a glass bottle and a glass of wine every day. Also, her will to spread kindness never ended.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two children, John Marshall Condra and Glenda Bryan, five siblings, Virginia Mayberry, Thurman Tillery, Dub Tillery, Skeet Tillery and Robert Tillery, one grandchild, Larry Bryan, Jr. and one great grandchild, Lillian Grace Overturf.

She is survived by one son, Charles “Sonny” Condra and his wife Fonda of Harrisburg, four daughters, Ruby Nell Spears of Searcy, Dorothy Ellis of Lawton, OK, Sharon Condra of Harrisburg and Judy May and her husband Jimmy of Harrisburg, 11 grandchildren, Randy Ellis, Ronnie Ellis, Greg Spears, Scott Spears, Craig Condra, John May, Gwen Spears Taylor, Bridget Whittingham, Priscilla Wixon, Brittany England and Jill Overturf, 21 Great Grandchildren, 2 Great-Great Grandchildren and 5 special nieces, Debra Tillery, Charlotte Mayberry Rushing, Vickie Winningham, Barbara Coffey and Carolyn Brown.

Funeral Services are set for 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Harrisburg with Rev. Beth Perdue officiating. Interment will follow in Farm Hill Cemetery under the direction of Gregg-Weston Funeral Home of Harrisburg. Friends may visit at the funeral home Wednesday evening, 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Randy Ellis, Ronnie Ellis, Craig Condra, Greg Spears, Scott Spears and John May. Those serving as honorary pallbearers include James Williams, Billy Joe Williams, Johnny Branum, Kenneth Branum, Jim Tom Butler, Barry Deckleman, Ricky Witt, Ricky Faulkner, Bob Chandler, Ron Hunter, Terry Caughron, Bill Weston, Lloyd Evans, Ruthie Britnell Roberts, Berneda Heeb, Margie Wright and Vivian Sanders.
